Are you expecting a baby soon?

I am looking for an expectant parent, who might be interested in participating in a parent-infant observation.

I am currently a Post Graduate student at the BPF enrolled on an infant observation course.

https://www.britishpsychotherapyfoundation.org.uk/education/courses/infant-observation/

I am interested in deepening my understanding of human development and appreciation for the parent-infant relationship, so that I can bring this into my therapeutic work with adults.

What is an infant observation?

An infant observation is an experiential process, which unfolds over weekly 1-hour visits, which take place ideally up until the child's second birthday. The aim is to help the observer learn more about infant development and milestones through observation of a baby in a natural setting.

Observations commence as early as possible and ideally no later than 4 weeks after birth.

There is no assessment or therapy involved - the focus is purely on learning through observation of the infant.

What is required?

  • Are you currently pregnant and due to give birth in Spring or Summer 2026?

  • Do you live in London?

  • Are you open to the prospect of your baby being quietly observed on a weekly basis as you go about your usual routines?

What is involved?

  • The observations would take place weekly (excluding holidays) at a time and day that would be mutually agreed.

  • The observation would usually take place in the family home for 1 hour each week and continue until the baby's second birthday.

  • Parents and infants do not need to do anything extra/special for the observers visits and are free to continue with their daily tasks.

What do parents gain from participating?

Many parents who have taken part in an infant observation have valued the regularity of the observers visits and the space this has provided to reflect on their baby and its unfolding development into toddlerhood. Many have commented  that they found the regular visits rewarding and a meaningful experience for them and their infant.

What would the next steps be?

If you are interested in taking part please feel free to reach out to me on the email below.

We would first arrange a time to meet either in person or online to discuss what taking part might look like and any questions you might have.

I would then leave you space to consider whether you would like to proceed.

I have an enhanced DBS check, along with a letter of introduction from my training institution (BPF), which I am happy to share with you.
